After finishing an art and design course, Kimberley Knowles set up her own business with an office and workshop. The inspiration for the business came from working on vintage designs for her friends and family and soon after she started selling at craft fairs and shops.
Kimberley said: “I enjoy dealing in vintage finds as I am fascinated by fashions from the past. My designs started selling out quickly and department stores like Harrods started to ask about my jewellery, fascinators, bags, dresses, t-shirts, dresses and other clothing which are vintage inspired and very unique”.
Kimberley now has contacts with other young designers who make clothes and jewellery, which are very popular with young girls, but there is no forum or platform for young designers to get started and ideas to create a bazaar, vintage event for up and coming designers to showcase what they can do was planned. There are lots of very creative and talented young people with stock to sell but can’t afford the overheads of a shop.
The very first Young Designers Market to showcase these goods will be held in Darlington Market Square on Saturday 17 October.
This event will bring a different outlook on designer festivals by creating a unique market for young Bohemian, Vintage & Fashion designers from all over the North East, with a Camden Town/Greenwich Village type feel and edge.
Are there any young designers out there who want to take part in this groundbreaking event in Darlington town centre?
