‘On Yer Bike’ says Lingfield Point

Lingfield Point has embraced Darlington’s ‘Local Motion’ initiative and thrown its weight behind the Darlington Cycle Challenge with a series of events aimed at celebrating the joys of cycling.

The Darlington Cycle Challenge is a three week long competition aimed at reminding people of the fun of riding a bike. The objective is for organisations to get as many colleagues as possible to ride a bike for just 10 minutes.

A number of businesses based at Lingfield Point have accepted the challenge including Faulkner Browns, Lingfield Warehousing, Marchday plc, NAAFI, Student Loans Company and Xentrall Shared Services.

Participants can win a host of prizes including restaurant and shopping vouchers, cycling prizes, theatre tickets and a day’s paintballing.

‘Dr Bike’ has visited Lingfield Point as part of the project to offer advice and give free bike checks and a lunch-time cycle ride was arranged to give people the opportunity to polish up their cycling skills.

Customers at Lingfield Point are already encouraged to keep fit and adopt the new, environmentally-friendly ethos, with bikes available for hire from the Hub.

John Orchard, Director of Marchday plc, owners of Lingfield Point, is an enthusiastic cyclist and is often seen riding around the estate and the local cycle routes.

Eddie Humphries, Lingfield Point Estate Manager said: “Darlington is known world-wide for its connections with the railways and recently the town broke new ground with the Local Motion, its sustainable travel initiative.

“Lingfield Point has long encouraged its customers to think about the way they travel, not only to and from work but the short journeys that are undertaken every day. We hope this initiative can encourage more people to take this issue seriously but also have a lot of fun and get a little bit fitter at the same time.”

David Ryan, Workplace Cycle Challenge Co-ordinator said: “Lingfield Point has always been a great supporter of Local Motion and has implemented its own ‘green’ travel initiatives. John practices what he preaches and I know he can often be spotted cycling around Lingfield Point.

“People can ride wherever they feel comfortable and at anytime over the Challenge. It’s not just about cycling to work or cycling the most miles. It's all about getting more people to experience and remember how fun and easy cycling can be.”
