Peter Wilson, Markets Manager, is putting Darlington on the map after being asked to be one of a small number of people to work on a government task group to improve the services and capabilities of markets nationwide.
Peter is a member of the ‘Retail Markets Alliance task group’, a body delivering a number of key guides on management models, good practice and business support for markets across the country.
The task group was set up following a Government Select Committee Report into the UK markets. Peter was also involved in the Select Committee’s work last year. The group will work to ensure politicians, government departments, market operators and traders can access critical information and influence policy on national issues including regeneration and the economy, business creation, social cohesion, food and health, culture and tourism and the environment.
Peter said: “The task group is quite small – for Darlington to be represented and compile these guides shows a high degree of confidence in our capacity.”
The markets industry employs more than 100,000 people nationally and has a turnover of £7billion.
Peter was recently asked to share his knowledge and expertise on markets to a national audience including the CLG (Communities and Local Government department) at a conference.
