Laying the Foundations for New Business

A Darlington based commercial property company is pushing for a positive attitude in reply to Government spending cuts.

It is expected that 400 jobs could go in Darlington as a result of the spending cuts, however Burts Property want to encourage the trend of ‘Start Up’ businesses to enable the region to prosper. Burts Property, who have seen strong growth over the last 15 years, have just welcomed a new tenant to their offices at Birch House and are hoping this will have a knock on effect for future employment.

Nigel Todd, Property Director of Burts Property, says “The offices and warehouse accommodation is provided with terms to suit individual requirements, so we can accommodate almost any type of business.

“By offering competitive rates we are doing our bit to encourage and support small businesses, this helps to reduce the 400 potential increase in unemployment and show the country that Darlington is the place to be”.

The new tenant is i-dea who organises and administers the production of all types of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) throughout the North of England.

Angelina Bell, Managing Director of i-dea said “Our business has outgrown our original office based at home and we felt it was time to separate the business from our own personal life, an office away from home has provided this.

“The location of Birch House provides easy access to businesses in Darlington and it is also located close to both North Rd and Haughton Road, this makes access easy to the A66 / A1 which are used on a daily basis to serve our client base all around the country.

i-dea is the brain child of Angelina and Alun Bell who formed the company in 2007 combining business and technical skills in preparation for the launch of the ‘Energy Performance Buildings Directive’ which now requires all domestic and commercial buildings which are sold or let to have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

To date, clients include some of the largest Local Authorities / Social Housing Providers in the North East as well as Property Management Agents, Estate Agents, Solicitors, Property Developers, Architects and Private Landlords.

A.E. Burt & Co Ltd is a family run business and has been trading in Darlington for over 100 years. The Burt name has been synonymous with flooring since 1945. Today the company remains at the forefront of both domestic and commercial flooring in the Darlington area but it is the property division that is seeing strong growth from a sound foundation.

Burts Property has a large portfolio comprising of offices and warehousing for rent in Darlington. The tenants range from sole traders to government bodies including the NHS and provide offices from 200 Sq. Ft. and upwards to let on flexible terms with rent at very attractive rates.
